Oil on cradled wood panel. This painting was inspired by the Christina Rosetti poem, "In the Bleak Midwinter," which makes me think about a frozen and seemingly lifeless world concealing the promise of spring's rebirth. Fans of Peaky Blinders may be familiar with the opening lines:
In the bleak mid-winter
Frosty wind made moan,
Earth stood hard as iron,
Water like a stone;
Snow had fallen, snow on snow,
Snow on snow,
In the bleak mid-winter
Long ago...
