West Pond Schoodic Point

Watercolor painted fully on location. My surface is Multi-Media's Arches 100% cotton rag watercolor paper mounted on a 1/8" sintra panel. I had driven past this view several times and on this pass the lighting was subtle, the tide was in and the reflection was divine. I pulled over, set up and began painting quickly as I could see rain drifting down from an incoming cloud bank. I had to also be careful not to chase the waterline and the tide began to go out. I drew in my large shapes, noted the areas of light I needed to protect and began painting using a limited palette of colors. Just as I finished the last swirl in the water, it began to rain.
