Logan Pass Peephole

Logan Pass Peephole, Plein Air Oil
Logan Pass Peephole
This piece was painted en plein air during the Glacier Plein Air event in Glacier National Park, Montana in September. I found the perfect pullout on Going-to-the-Sun Road, knew I wanted backlighting for the scene, and painted quickly to capture the fading late afternoon light through this magical mountain tunnel. I love this piece because it FEELS like I'm right there again. I enjoyed sculpting the chiseled stone layers and communicating the reflected light inside the tunnel itself, and I think viewers will sense the delight the experience brought me!
