Moonrise over St Mary

I painted this piece en plein air during the Plein Air Glacier event in Glacier National Park, Montana. I haven't painted many moonrises, and I was grateful to have my buddy, Melanie Thompson, to keep me company on a very dark and cold evening in the Montana backcountry. This piece rolled off the brush and it captures the feeling of awe as these big beautiful shapes unfolded before me. I'd painted from this spot during the day previously, and it was so fun to attempt it again during a different time with dramatically different lighting!
