This is an oil on linen panel that started as a quick study done at Deception Pass, Washington this August and finished in my studio. The water was very still with deep dark reflections that created a lovely crescent shape, leading the eye to the colorful grasses in the distance. The foreground foliage was very sunlit, so I lowered the values to focus the eyes on the water and grasses. Although it looks like I painted many leaves, actually they are blobs of colors on close inspection that allow your mind's eye to fill in the details.
