A Path in the Summer Woods

The Sierra Nevada is chock full of forest paths like this one in Sierra National Forest. The way the light was filtering down creating patterns of dark and light shimmering shapes captivated me. This painting began as a series of sketches that lived in my sketchbook for a long time. I came across them again and was inspired to develop them into this painting. Living in the Sierra has given me a muscle memory of places I camp and hike to often, which definitely helped in developing the painting.
