“Hanfu Dress” is the largest scale oil painting on linen that I created during my stay in China from 2019 - 2022. In the painting, which is full of Chinese elements, the red wall in the background, painted in vermillion red, symbolizes good fortune and prosperity, and the green, implies living and growing. The formation of the rock structures embraces strength and solidarity. The model of the painting, dressed in traditional Chinese clothing “Hanfu,” symbolizes the bright future for mankind, by her prominent representational and optimistic colors. The umbrella in her hands, so delicately held, symbolizes protection as an emblem of power and dignity, which reminds us of an ancient Chinese idiom, “A friend in need is a friend indeed,” characterizing the increasing mutual friendship required to overcome any obstacles.
