“Yunnan Girl” is a small-scale oil painting on linen that I created during my stay in China from 2019 - 2022. With such a lush cultural diversity, the Province of Yunnan located in the southwestern part of China encompasses a cultural vibrance unmatched anywhere else in the world. The model of the painting is captured in the beautiful outdoor scenery of natural colors as portrayed by the cool blues of the deep gorge contrasting the typical ethnic attire of the young girl. The colors and patterns are not only the reflection of the geographical natural environment of the region, but also the identification of the uniqueness of its people. Her black dress symbolizes purity and protection with a strong vibrant pink embroidered silk scarf hanging down her dress embracing the colors of love and purity.
