Painted in acrylic from live model and several photos. Substrate is birch panel. My process is a series of glazed layers over blocked in base drawing of main subject. The inspiration came from a moment when I was struck by the gorgeous light filtering through our forest, and felt like I could accurately capture the squirrel as she paused for a moment on a branch. I have a love-hate relationship with the squirrels. I love how cute they are and how they tease the dogs, but hate how they eat my garden in the summer. This one made me laugh with her antics - and the challenge of painting fluffy fur against the filtered sunlight was irresistible.
